Look for Beauty and Opportunity©
A few weeks ago, my younger daughter Ariela (4) and I went to a little café for breakfast. After our meal, I held her hand as we went for a walk in an old residential neighborhood.
And about five minutes into our walk, Ariela said, “Papi, look at that tree.”
I looked up and saw a fairly common looking tree without many leaves.
“Not there Papi,” Ariela said as she pointed. “Look up there!”
I looked up even higher. And at the top of the tree was a burst of orange color.
I had never seen anything like it before. It was absolutely beautiful. It looked like a giant bouquet of orange flowers perched on the tree’s canopy.
With enthusiastic prodding from my daughter, I saw beauty I had not seen before.
This Week
This week at work let my daughter prod you too. In each of your meetings, telephone conversations, and hallway chats, look for one thing of beauty, novelty, or curiosity to you. Be on the lookout for things you have not seen or considered before. Think of yourself as an explorer this week; keep your mind open and nimble. Be the one to look for the opportunity in your interactions. Be the one to see color when others might only see black and white.
And remember to post the results of your experience this week, or send me an email with your story.

Hi Lil,
I love the visual of a sideways walking crab! And what a great testament to your husband!
Best to you,
David

There is beauty where we least expect it. This morning I watched a crab make its way across our patio and up a short step into the bushes. I love nature, and it was so fascinating to watch the crab move ahead as it seemed to be going sideways(do crabs actually move ahead facing sideways?). I'll have to find out. It was a great feeling to have nature in my backyard.
I find beauty every day and many times every day in the kindness, generosity and dedication that my husband has for his family. He's a good guy! Thanks David. Your little girl is extraordinary. Lil

I will be thinking of the lesson your observant little one gave you-and us!
It had me recalling an early morning last week when I peeled out of the driveway and headed up an empty road to town to do errands. Suddenly a really big bunny hopped across the road a ways in front of me, and I braked slowly - and I smiled to myself while I watched the cute, fast critter disappear safely behind a hedge and a small hill. I call these events "nice nature notches", and the more notches I gather, the more I know I'm taking the time to experience very important aspects of life.
